Jammu, Apr 28 (KNO): Awami Ittehad Party (AIP) legislator Sheikh Khursheed on Monday raised serious concerns over the recent civilian killing in Kupwara and the Bandipora operation, urging the government to initiate thorough investigations to uphold public trust. Speaking during a special session of the Assembly, AIP MLA, as per the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) said that following the Pahalgam terror attack, a civilian, Ghulam Rasool Magray, was killed during a late-night incident in Kupwara. He appealed to Chief Minister Omar Abdullah to order an inquiry and ensure that compensation is provided to the victim’s family. Sheikh, an MLA of Langate constituency also questioned the recent security operation in Bandipora, noting that serious concerns have been raised across social media platforms. “For the larger cause of restoring faith among people, it is imperative that an impartial inquiry is conducted,” he said. He also expressed sorrow over the prevailing situation in Kashmir, noting that while the valley had united in grief after the Pahalgam attack, civilians must not be subjected to collective punishment. “This needs to be taken up seriously with the Union Government. Terrorism must be tackled firmly, but the common people should not suffer,” he added. Expressing apprehension that the restoration of Jammu and Kashmir’s statehood might face delays, he urged the Government of India to expedite the process. “It is high time statehood is restored. Empowering the people will reduce alienation and prevent such incidents in the future,” he said, emphasizing that statehood would serve a larger purpose and bring long-term stability—(KNO)
